Stake.us stops Oklahoma play before the ban begins
Stake.us told Oklahoma players that sweeps coin play would run through 30 October 2026, two days before the state's new sweepstakes law takes effect on 1 November. Ballislife reported on 26 October that from 1 November Oklahoma players lose access to all games, and that purchases of digital currency packages stop after 30 October.
The law is SB 1589. It widens Oklahoma's gambling rules to cover online casino-style games using virtual currencies or credits that represent value, wording that PokerListings says targets dual-currency models, where one coin is for play and another can be redeemed for prizes. Governor Kevin Stitt vetoed it and the Legislature overrode the veto on 14 May.
For players, the practical point is the balance. Both outlets say redemptions of existing Stake Cash that met playthrough requirements remain possible after play ends, although Ballislife describes the cut-off for those requests as unclear. We found no statement from Stake itself setting a deadline, so anyone holding a balance should read Stake's own help pages rather than rely on a news summary.
Who else is leaving Oklahoma, and who is not
Stake is not alone. Ballislife says ACE Casino cut off all access for Oklahoma players, and the B2 Operations sites Hello Millions and McLuck did the same from 1 November.
Two operators took a different route. Baba Casino and Modo.us stopped sweeps coin play in Oklahoma but still allow gold coin play, which cannot be redeemed for prizes. Ballislife notes this may help them avoid the statute, but adds that a court could decide otherwise. That is the reporter's reading of an untested approach, not a legal finding.
Stake had already pulled gameplay from Maine, according to the same report, where a ban on dual-currency sweepstakes games took effect in July 2026.
Ten states and counting
PokerListings lists nine states with sweepstakes casino bans as of October 2026: California, Connecticut, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New York and Tennessee. Oklahoma is the tenth. It adds that Idaho, Michigan, Nevada and Washington already keep most sweepstakes casinos out through older gambling laws or enforcement, and that California's AB 831 took effect at the start of 2026.
Ballislife also points to Iowa, which has no explicit sweepstakes ban but has expanded its gambling regulator's power to investigate and recommend penalties for unlicensed gambling websites.
The bad news: the courts have not finished with Stake
The Oklahoma exit sits beside several open legal fights. Sweepsy reported that Florida's attorney general sued Stake, including Stake.us, Easygo and Kick Streaming, on 19 August 2026, alleging an illegal online casino under Florida gambling law and its deceptive practices act. The complaint also alleges Stake allowed gambling on credit, failed to honour self-exclusion efforts and offered services to minors. These are allegations, and Sweepsy reported no response from Stake.
Separately, Wikipedia's Stake entry records that Sweepsteaks Ltd, which operates Stake.us, was named alongside Drake and Adin Ross in a class action filed on 31 December 2025. A Stake.us representative told Rolling Stone it was "a nonsense claim". On 30 July 2026 a federal judge ruled that an arbitration clause in Stake's user agreement sends the dispute with Stake to a private arbitrator, and paused the claims against the other defendants meanwhile.
The good news: players keep a route to their balance
Reports agree that Stake.us is ending play rather than freezing money: existing Stake Cash can still be redeemed after the cut-off, which is the outcome players in a banned state most want. Stake's own reply to the Oklahoma law was not available to us, so treat that as press reporting and not a guarantee.
Stake.us has no gambling licence, since its model relies on sweepstakes rules, and our review rates it Mixed for that reason.
What to watch next
Watch for Stake's help-centre wording on Oklahoma redemptions, any Florida court filings, and whether a court tests the gold-coin-only approach used by Baba Casino and Modo.us. Other operators may follow with state exits as bans start.
Stake.us is aimed at US players.
