Phoenix DuelReels is a Hacksaw Gaming slot built around VS symbols that can turn into full wild reels. Each expanded DuelReel stages a contest between the Phoenix and the Water Dragon, with the surviving duelist determining the multiplier applied across that reel.
The important detail is that a VS symbol does not expand automatically. It becomes a DuelReel only when doing so would create or contribute to a winning combination. When a VS symbol becomes a DuelReel
A VS symbol expands when it would be part of a win or create one. The resulting DuelReel covers its entire reel and counts as a full wild reel, substituting for every symbol listed in the paytable. Only one VS symbol can land on an individual reel at a time.
Phoenix DuelReels also includes a separate Wild symbol. Like a fully expanded DuelReel, this Wild substitutes for all paytable symbols, but it does not carry the duel process described for VS symbols.
How the duel multipliers affect wins
Every expanded DuelReel has two multipliers, one connected to the Phoenix and another to the Water Dragon. A duel takes place on the reel, and the surviving character's multiplier is applied to winning combinations that include that DuelReel.
Several DuelReels can contribute to the same combination. When that happens, their multipliers are added together before the resulting multiplier is applied to the win. This makes it worth checking every expanded reel rather than focusing on a single duel result.
Resurrection Spins can continue the sequence
A Resurrection Spin re-spin is awarded when the Phoenix loses on at least one DuelReel. At least one VS symbol is guaranteed to land during that re-spin, creating another opportunity for the central mechanic to appear.
The process repeats for as long as DuelReels with losing Phoenixes continue to appear. The sequence ends once a re-spin produces no DuelReels on which the Phoenix loses.
Fire and Water free spins
The Fire and Water bonus game is activated by landing three FS scatter symbols at the same time in the base game. It begins with 10 free spins and retains the regular game features, while giving VS symbols a better chance to land.
Extra FS symbols can add more spins during the bonus. Two FS symbols award two additional free spins, while three FS symbols award four additional free spins.
Rise of the Phoenix bonus game
Landing four FS scatter symbols at the same time in the base game activates Rise of the Phoenix with 10 free spins. It uses the same enhanced features as Fire and Water, including the increased chance of VS symbols appearing.
Its main difference is an upgraded version of Resurrection Spins. During the re-spin, the number of VS symbols landing is equal to the number of DuelReels with losing Phoenixes in the triggering spin. The extra-spin rules remain unchanged, with two FS symbols adding two spins and three FS symbols adding four.
The Phoenix Egg bonus gamble
Whenever a bonus game is entered, Phoenix DuelReels offers a choice between starting it directly or using the Bonus Gamble. The gamble presents five Phoenix Eggs, and up to three can be selected.
An Egg can contain between two and 10 free spins. During the Fire and Water bonus, an Egg may instead reveal a Bonus Upgrade. Finding the upgrade immediately changes the feature to Rise of the Phoenix with 10 free spins. The gamble can be used once per bonus, and the rules also permit another gamble after a Bonus Upgrade.
