Duel at Dawn

Duel at Dawn overview

Duel at Dawn is a Hacksaw Gaming slot centered on two expanding reel mechanics. A VS symbol can become a wild DuelReel when its expansion would contribute to a winning combination, while an Outlaw symbol expands into a full wild reel and shoots additional Wild symbols onto the grid.

The game also has two separate bonus routes. Three FS scatter symbols trigger Wild Wild West, while four activate Dusk 'Til Dawn. Both begin with 10 free spins, but they handle VS symbols, Outlaw appearances, and extra spins differently.

How DuelReels turn a win into a showdown

A VS symbol expands only when the resulting DuelReel would be part of a winning combination. Once expanded, it covers the full reel, and every position on that reel counts as a Wild symbol.

The reel stages a duel between The Outlaw and The Sheriff. Each duelist has a multiplier, and the surviving character's value is applied to winning combinations that include the DuelReel. Only one VS symbol can land on any single reel.

The Outlaw reel and its Wild shots

When an Outlaw symbol lands, it expands into a full wild Outlaw reel. Its revolver displays between one and six bullets, with the bullet count determining how many additional Wild symbols are shot onto the grid.

A maximum of two Outlaw symbols can appear on one spin, and only one can land on a reel. When two are present, they cannot shoot at each other or place multiple Wild symbols on the same grid position.

Multiplier values and symbol limits

DuelReels and Outlaw reels use the same possible multiplier values: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 9x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 75x, 100x, and 200x. A multiplier applies only when its expanded reel is included in the winning combination.

If multiple DuelReels contribute to the same win, their multipliers are added before being applied. The same addition rule covers multiple Outlaw reels. A VS symbol and an Outlaw symbol cannot land during the same spin.

Wild Wild West free spins

Landing three FS scatter symbols together in the base game starts Wild Wild West with 10 free spins. The base mechanics remain active, but the feature increases the chance of VS and Outlaw symbols appearing, along with the chance of higher-value multipliers on their expanded reels.

Additional FS symbols can extend the feature. Two FS symbols award two extra spins, while three FS symbols award four extra spins.

Dusk 'Til Dawn and the four DuelSpins

Four FS scatter symbols in the base game trigger Dusk 'Til Dawn with 10 free spins. During this bonus, VS symbols do not appear in standard free spins. They are reserved for special DuelSpins.

A DuelSpin is unlocked when an Outlaw lands and shoots a full revolver of six Wild symbols onto the grid. The spin is awarded immediately, does not use one of the remaining free spins, and adds three extra free spins. No more than two DuelSpins can be unlocked on one spin, and simultaneous awards are played in sequence.

Up to four DuelSpins can be earned. The first guarantees at least two VS symbols, the second at least three, and the third at least four. The fourth guarantees that five VS symbols land.

What to check in the free demo

The Duel at Dawn demo is useful for following the order of each feature. On a VS result, check that the symbol expands only when the full wild reel would help form a win, then note which duelist survives and which multiplier is attached to the reel.

For an Outlaw result, compare the revolver's bullet count with the number of Wild symbols added to the grid. The two bonuses are also easy to distinguish in demo play: Wild Wild West increases access to the standard feature symbols, while Dusk 'Til Dawn restricts VS symbols to unlocked DuelSpins.

Rules worth remembering

The regular Wild substitutes for every symbol in the paytable. Expanded DuelReel positions are also Wild, and the full Outlaw reel acts as Wild while adding between one and six more Wild symbols elsewhere on the grid.

The main restrictions keep the features separate: only one VS symbol or Outlaw symbol can land on a reel, no more than two Outlaws can appear in one spin, and VS and Outlaw symbols never land at the same time. Multipliers from multiple reels of the same type are added rather than multiplied.
