Is Online Gambling Legal in Alberta? 2026 Rules Explained

What changed on 13 July 2026, who is in charge and how to tell a registered site

Is online gambling legal in Alberta?

Yes, through registered operators. The Government of Alberta says its regulated iGaming market "officially launched on July 13, 2026", and AGLC's iGaming page says that from that date all operators must be registered with AGLC and have signed a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC). The minimum age to gamble online in Alberta is 18.

This is a guide, not legal advice. The sources we checked say who may operate and how to tell; they do not say what happens to a player who uses a site that is not registered, so we do not guess.

What changed on 13 July 2026

Since 13 July 2026 private operators can register with AGLC to offer online gaming in the province. AGLC describes the result as "dozens of new iGaming operators", and on 23 October 2026 its register listed 40 iGaming operators, including the province's own Play Alberta. See the full list.

Who is in charge: AGLC and AiGC

AGLC is the regulator and is responsible for oversight of the iGaming industry. The Alberta iGaming Corporation deals with commercial agreements, anti-money laundering, financials and reporting income. AGLC warns players to be aware of the difference between the two.

How to tell a site is registered

Search AGLC's Gaming Registrants search for the brand and the web address. AGLC says the AiGC logo should be easy to see on adverts for approved operators, and that those adverts must include responsible gambling information, including 211 Alberta.

Our list of every registered operator is a copy of that register as of 23 October 2026. The register is the source of truth: it changes, ours does not until we update it.

Players are protected by one self-exclusion system

AGLC runs a centralised Self-Exclusion Program that every registered operator must connect to. A player can exclude from all registered iGaming platforms, from all land-based casinos and racing entertainment centres, or from both. More in our guide to Alberta iGaming.
